So youve heard all the praise that red wine is good for your heart, but a new study can prove even better than that. An experimental research study conducted by the University of Moscow- Russia found that 2 oz. (or the equivilant of a shots-worth) of Absolut vodka a day can actually help prevent colon cancer.
The process Absolut uses is different than any other brand in the category because they continuously distill their vodka, making it approximately 20% more pure than say Bacardi or Smirnoff. Since their fermentation process is so rigorous, the resulting vodka is almost as natural as bottled water.
How this study came about.
The scientists wanted to test the hypothesis that since we are recommended to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day for optimal health, performance and longevity, vodka may in fact provide some of the same benefits to long life. Because it is a neutral spirit, devoid of color and odor, vodka can be distilled from virtually any fermentable ingredients. Although some eastern European vodkas are still made from potatoes and corn, most of the high quality imports and all vodka made in the United States are distilled from cereal grains, such as wheat. Distillers either purchase the grain from suppliers, or grow it in company-owned fields.
It was discovered that the purity in the vodka actually helped the stomach and colon to mash up the food and absorb the vital nutrients, minerals, carbohydrates, calories and proteins into the intestinal lining and dispel waste, whereas other alcohol families such as whiskeys and cognacs often resulted in indigestion from the sugary malting process.
Everything in Moderation.
In the US, drinking in moderation means one glass for women, and one to two glasses for men. The definition of moderation is different in the United Kingdom and European Union, however. The "sensible limits" in the UK and EU are two to three glasses per day for women and three to four glasses for men. The key to reaping the health benefits seems to be moderate, but regular consumption. Drinking one shot or mixed drink a day may decrease the risk of cancer and stroke.
